Why is the image of a Black couple the greatest threat to the Marvel Universe?
Why are all the prominent Black hero’s at Marvel (Storm, Falcon, American Patriot. Blade, Miles Morales the Ultimate Spiderman ) in a relationship with person of another race? Even the gay couples.
Yet the marriage of Storm and Panther was a mistake.
What is it about Black sexuality that makes it easier to feature all white girls in a comic that features a Black teenage Spiderman as if no Black girls exist in New York?
Repost this until Marvel gets over its fear of Black people in love
I HAVE ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS!
It’s almost as if relationships and love only matter if it contains at least ONE white person.
It’s almost as if two black people in love is a threat to white people.
It’s almost as if white couples are allowed, but black couples are an anathema.
it might be a case of being almost too “openminded” to multiracial relationships, not wanting to “just place the Black characters together for no reason other than they are both Black”.
but you’d think that there could easily be many other reasons since these are often established characters with lots of history and any number of reasons for attraction could be found by the story designers.
so over all i agree with the complaints above.
(this also happens in Doctor Who, like, a lot. which is why Martha+Mickey was nice because you can sort of see what they would see in each other. despite class differences, and despite Martha being awesome from the beginning and Mickey not so much, they had a sort of similar path to finding their own bad-ass-ness through their travels with the Doctor, and taking charge of their own destiny.
I might have agreed that it was merely an attempt to be open-minded IF it wasn’t so mind-numbingly clear that the only relationship choices they allow are white/white, white/black, White/Asian, white/Latin@, white/Indigenous, but rarely black/black, Asian/Asian, Latin@/Latin@, Indigenous/Indigenous.
The fact that the constant in every relationship is WHITENESS reveals their open-mindedness as just another form of white supremacy.
